Who currently holds
each Greater Manchester ward.

Companion to the Map page's Before/After/Flips split. This one paints every Greater Manchester ward by the party that most recently won it — for the 9 thirds boroughs and Trafford that's the 2026 contest; for Salford it's the 2021 all-out with the 2026 Barton & Winton by-election layered on top. Same data as Map's After view for GM (which contested every ward in 2026), surfaced here for parity with the Great Britain version, where most wards weren't up in 2026 and the most-recent winner is the only honest "current" reading.

Method: Ward boundaries are ONS WD24 (May 2024 BGC), filtered to the 10 GM borough LAD codes (E08000001–E08000010), reprojected from WGS84 to British National Grid (EPSG:27700), simplified at 50 m tolerance, and committed to data/ward_geoms.json — see scripts/09_fetch_ward_boundaries.py. Winner per ward is sourced from data/all_wards.json (the 2026 result set; for Salford's non-by-election wards the 2021 winner is carried forward). See scripts/04c_build_current_winners.py for the per-ward assembly and scripts/07d_build_current_map_artifact.py for the splice. Hover (or tap) any ward for its name and the year of the most-recent contest.

Grey wards have no current-control data on record (e.g. cancelled Bury · Moorside). The Great Britain version of this page shows much more grey, since the ~200 GB councils that did not contest in 2026 are still being added to the registry.
